I ‘m a little surprised to be alive enough to write this to you. Not to sound too dramatic lovelies but I was in the Mournland after all. If you ever get a chance to go please do not. You’ll give your old Gramma Xen a start if you even go near that place. It’s aged me just by being there. But if I’m going to tell this story I should start at the start. Please make sure you read this before reading out loud to the kiddy winks as it might be too scary for them.
I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned it to you before but I’m on a secret journey and it’s lead this silly old forged and her friends into the Mournland. Well we went through Fort Zombie and go some wonderfully useful information from the Zombie keepers there. As I’m sure you can keep a secret I don’t mind telling you that the Litch we are after, because of the Dragon Prophecy you know, passed through Fort Zombie only 3 days before we got there. Not bad timing on ours behalf if I do say so myself. Anywho the Litch asked these lovely people to lie for him but they decided to tell us the truth. Apparently the Litch headed south with 8 carriages.
Lynx-y-poo, always helpful, found what we think is the litches scent, rose petals and holy water don’t you know. Oh and Lynx-y-poo is now a wolfie. You best tell the kiddles that. He’s all white with a little grey. Also, Luna has a pet elf now, but only I can talk to her, the elf that is, not Luna.
Anyway we also go south after the Litch. We ride of lovely horses while Luna’s elf flies her fire sleigh. It’s a marvellous thing really but it couldn’t carry all of us.
I had another one of those things I think you call dreams. There is an audience of Warforged in a huge metal coliseum. The seats, ground and absolutely everything was metal and there are 6 massive cages full of elves, humans and other non warforged races. The stands are full of screaming Warforged and I was one of them. Two Warforged open a cage and pull someone out and then a 12 foot siege Warforged which has one hand as a double-axe and one hand as a massive stone. He seems to be a generation 1 Warforged and can follow simple instructions.
Magnus contacts Atticus with that magic stone we have and finds out that some gentleman named Calladak Hathburn was the intermediary who hired the Hush Blades for the Thuranni to kill us. It’s all rather complicated if you ask me and doesn’t make sense just yet, but I’m sure it will come to us. We also found out that the Lord of Blades has decided to start a new religion for Warforged in the Mournland. It’s rather curious to me but I suppose it might work, perhaps I shall have to look into it. And who the Lord of Blades is. Last Atticus said that Zachariah (a down on his luck Dwarf I gave a shoe shine kit to) started a training facility at our mansion in Arcanix for youths called “Lyn and Luna’s adventuring school”. You simple must pop down there to how this marvellous idea. I hope to be back there soon to see how the Cyreans are faring.
We did something very tricky to the Litch by contacting him through a different magic speaking stone we got off one of his helpers and told him we know where he was, in the west. Hahaha to him, we actually know he’s south but the silly old thing believed us. Tricks on him it is.
Did you know that the edge of the Mournland is a river and that part way across it become fog? Well it is. Once we entered the fog we were in total and complete darkness. Darker than anything you’ve ever not seen before. To help us not get separated we tether ourselves together. A rather wonderful idea if you ask me. Then we walk. We walk and walk and walk; for ages. We can’t even make light and barely a sound.
The Mournland is a truly horrible place. We found that Luna’s spells could not heal us properly, though my delicious berries helped some. I spent a lot of time counting (it was relaxing as I’m sure you can well imagine) so we could try to keep track of time as there was no light or dark, nor was Mangus’ watch working. We heard some terrifying laughter, but thankfully it just passed right by us. This, we found out later, was very fortuitous for us as we were told that the laughter took a member of another party. That was before the rest of them met the trees.
We find a tree with 4 dead people hanging from it but they are not really people anymore. One corpse has tentacles on it, another is a goat person, one doesn’t have a mouth (so we don’t try to talk to him as that would be silly – trying to talk to someone with a mouth) and the last has a snake head and is covered in bark. Luna cast a magic spell on them so we can talk to them so we ask them some questions. It’s not there answer exactly that are scary or their voice, it’s sort of the way they answered. I’m sure it’s silly but it scared this old Forged.
We found out that the died because they “couldn’t stand it” and that they only got as far as this tree we were at. Not a good sign for us I must say! The fog caused their snake head and tentacles as far as they knew. They entered the fog on 2 Olurune 998 YK so this probably happened to them quite quickly. They came into the Mournland on an Inquisitives quest (like I’ve done before) looking for the Chalice of Vermishard which they think can be found at the Alter of Oladra, Temple of Sovereigns, a the Palace of Vermishard. I’m a little worried that the others want to go looking for this Chalice. But this old Forged doesn’t want to stay in the Mournland longer than is absolutely necessary.
I have a wonderful idea, if I do say so myself, which I do, that so we know where we’ve been I draw a line in the dirt. Well the fog wasn’t going to have any of that now was it. It added its own line in the dirt and then hundreds of lines. I tried to make mind look different but I can’t say for sure I’d be able to follow it backwards. After more walking than I know for sure we did we come across another tree, And wouldn’t you believe it, the most awful thing I’ve even seen was it in. Our Corpses. As in mine, Luna’s, Lyn’s and Magnus’. We did not stick around long, so sir-ree. We did not. We headed right past as fast as we could in our exhausted state. I have no interested in talking to my own corpse and I’m sure no good would come of it. Then we come across a third tree. Did I mentioned they were all identical tree. Right down to the very pattern on the bark. A truly scary thing to see. I’m sure you realise that it’s not possible to have two identical trees. All this third tree had was a length of rope at the bottom. I don’t like this tree any more than the rest so we burn this one to the ground. It’s probably safer this way.
There were so many terribly scary thing to fight there. We came across some large fire men, giant tentacles that came out of the sky and stole bodies and laughing, creepy fey creatures seemed to be hunting us.
We found the fire men after walking through the pitch dark for an age then suddenly being transported to an endless, cracked earth landscape. There were dozens of there fire creatures so I put our my magic spikes and many of them die. Next thing I know I’m back in the dark and Luna’s elf is telling me we’ve been gone for quite a while. Finally Lyn, Magnus and Luna return but Luna is unconscious and MAngus can now throw his voice. I’m not sure how that will be useful but if a neat thing he can now do. Now don’t worry Luna was fine. She came to a little while later. During this little adventure to the fire creatures we lost Razor, Magnus’ horse and all the other horses.
At the edge of huge, dead battle field we find an armoured orc that doesn’t seem alive anymore, very much the opposite actually. Poor thing. Then we find some folded metal. It sort of looks like that art they used to have a modern museums in Metrol. But this one had the Breelish standard. Then we found another art with the Darguun colours on it. It’s good to see the Goblinoid races trying their hand at something different. Some of the bodies on the edge of the dead battle field didn’t look damaged at all. It was a rather peaceful site for the Mournland. Until a large tentacle came out of the sky. It felt around, found a body, picked it up and lifted it was up into the fog. It was very frightening. No sooner than that happened then a crushed metal ball fell from the sky. These were clearly aberrations and we found that when we killed one its tip fell off and it kept attacking and then there are little blobs of acid that attack as well. Not to worry though we beat them all, well all the ones we saw before we left the area.
Luna also accidently almost freed her elf, allowing it to kill her but thankfully the elf is very honourable and told me that Luna would have another chance to do so in the future when she (Luna) really understood what she was doing.
Magnus would be disappointed if I didn’t mention that he rode a tentacle right up into the sky before killing it, falling an awfully long way to the ground and surviving the entire thing. It was quite wonderful, though scary to watch.
The last thing that we came across were some cheeky fey who were out hunting. Luna said that they only come to this plane looking for prey. They surrounded us with childish voices and footsteps. They were quite tall and are quite round. When Lynx bit one it tasted like treacle. Then a large guy in a white cloak who had hands on his finger came to join us. Lyn starts mttering “i dont like this place” over and over and over and over again. Lynx knocks the hand monster prone. Zwaha doesnt move in towards me like i asked her. i cast spike growth.,
the hand monster tries to tickle some of us with some sort of scary shadow tendrils. Magnus smashes it and i kill a jester then lynx kills the last one (Lyn killed the first of the three).
