We have emerged from the mists, I wish I could say unscathed but that is not the case Lynx has grown a 5th leg and Magnus exclaims of a burning on his chest. Lifting his shirt reveals a Dragonmark that is almost uncomfortably hot to the touch, however Magnus seems less than enthused about his new manifestation. Surveying the land everything is wrong. The ground appears to be cold iron, while the trees are made of crystal, it is nothing like anything I have seen before. I am glad to be free of the mist however strange this land may be.
We take a short break to gain our bearings and to recover from our trip through the mist. While we are resting Magnus exclaims that there is a dwarf hidden not too far from us he has detected with his magical sight. Magnus approaches the dwarf and engages him in conversation much to the dwarves surprise. The dwarf gives us his name but in true dwarven fashion it is a strange name like blusterbottom or brimblesnuff and tells us to call him BB. BB goes on to advise that when the distortion happened he was turned invisible and the minds of his children were taken, he implores us to help his children. As important as our task is, I must see what I can do for these children before we continue and so we agree to accompany BB back to his house. After a short trip we arrive at a small house and BB leads us inside. Once inside he takes us down in to the lower levels – typical for a dwarf – And at the lowest level we are taken into a dark room to which we are met with a distressing sight. Inside the room there are two cages, both have gaunt human adults in them to which BB refers are his “children”. Something is very wrong here.
The male child BB had warned us was dangerous, but looking in to that cage all I saw was a man on the verge of death. I attempt to talk to “child” and through my mind speech I find that the mans name is Stefan and he and his accomplice Laura had been lured down here by BB and locked in the cages convinced that they were his children. Both Stefan and BB believe what they say is true, things are indeed strange in the mournland. I have to make a decision, and at the end of the day wether Stefan is BB’s child or not, I know that if he is kept in this cage he will die. I have BB open the cage and I cleanse Stefan’s diseases and Xenobia provides a goodberry for nutrition, the man will live but not in this cage. I turn my attention to the woman, Laura is in much better physical health and much worse mentally. She has regressed into the belief that she is a 5 year old dwarven child, and I sadly have no magic for a malady of this kind. All I can do is try and convince BB to treat them better than caged animals. We head upstairs to get some rest and see if we can figure out a plan for his children.
In the morning Stefan is gone. He has removed the window and vanished, Laura or “Dolse” as she is referred to is still present and still of the mind of a 5 year old child. BB is distraught, but I explain to him that while Stefan might die out on his own, he would definitely have died in that cage. BB has agreed to take us to the procelyte and to our horses when it is day as it is not safe outside during the morning or evening or night or any time really, but day is the most safe. Magnus goes outside to replace the window and whilst outside is unfortunately set upon by large fire elementals streaking accross the iron ground with whips in hand. The fight is a difficult one, that shows that even spells can be harnessed and animated. Sadly Zwaha does not make it.
Once the spells are dispatched and the window is firmly attached again, we head back inside to get what rest we can before it is time to travel and during the rest a storm of blades besets the house. I shudder to think what would have happened if we were outside travelling when that occurred. We set off from the house and BB leads us towards the “Dark Procelyte” and his church, 3 hours into the journey we are beset by the largest worm I have ever witnessed. The worm was not only tough and dangerous, but it had the singlemindedness of food and did not give up even when it was injured. We are victorious in dispatching the worm, however it does come at a cost. Magnus retrieves Lyn’s lifeless body from inside of the worm and I beseech Dol Arrah to find it in her heart to give this dwarf another chance at life. My prayers are answered through the familiar magic’s and Lyn returns to us.
Using one of the worm tunnels for shelter, we settle in for a break to compose ourselves for the coming hours and shortly after head towards where BB has indicated the procelyte is. Heading over the hill is an astonishing sight, a patch of land that is seemingly untouched by the mourning, where all around is iron and crystal trees this patch of land is grass covered with pine trees growing. The grounds are consecrated. I am unable to enter this bubble of paradise in such a barren land, so as the others enter to investigate what is happening and retreive our horses I let Magnus know that I will retreive Razor. I head around to the rear of the church and find 3 people attempting to push Razor inside the bubble with no success…… this gives me more insight in to Razors origins and with a sneer I can relate. I convince the 3 people with Razor that the horse is mine and will be coming with me, and thankfully I get away without bloodshed. I head back around to the front of the church and after a while the others emerge with our mounts. With our steeds returned our focus returns to the task at hand, we push on to Brexindale. Shortly into the trip we are met with more living spells, smaller lightning spells but deadly nonetheless. Learning from our first encounter that day we dispatch them while keeping our distance. Physically and Mentally drained…….. we push on to Brexindale.
