We are faced with a wet decision….. the rage burning inside to see these insidious dogmoles eradicated wins over and we traverse the water with the rope from a friend passed. On the other side of the rushing water we run in to two more of the large dogmoles, however this time one of them glows blue. After a quick and painful lesson to not hit the blue dogmole we dispatch the beasts and find a maul upon a pedestal at the end of the cave which Lynn retrieves. The rush of vengeance is burning out and leaving a heavy feeling in my heart as it always has when I have acted in anger….. it is a reminder from her.
We retrieve the daughter and head back to the farm, I attempt to communicate with her but it is as much as she is there in body – her mind is far away and cannot be reached. It is a malady I am unfamiliar with and sadly cannot help. We reach the goat farmers house and she is elated to see her daughter returned. She hands us the letter of payment for the inquisitives and advises that she must look for somewhere else to live. I see the pained look on Xenobia’s face as she thinks exactly what I do – we cannot take this ladies house from her, it is all she has. I return the galifars that she will need to keep her house and she offers us food and shelter for the night as well as any of her late husbands belongings. We settle in for the night while Magnus inspects the belongings offered and selects a small watch and a decorative jade frog. Sleep almost consumes us when I hear a familiar voice in my head – it is Diego! He lives and is trapped. I will return to find him in the morning.
At first light we bid farewell to the farmer and her daughter and head back to the cave to retrieve Diego. We are met with zero resistance as it seems the expedition of the previous day was a complete success. The dogmoles are no more, it gives a bitter sweet pleasure that the deaths of my friends have been paid for in kind. We quickly locate Diego hiding under a bed where a fireball had gone off, but it seems his eyes have been burned shut. Madnus attempts to alleviate his ailment but seems to cause more harm than good. We leave the cave with no further need or want to be around the awful place and head back in to the sun.
Outside the cave I assess the damage to Diego, his eyes are fused shut and his face badly burnt. It seems whatever caused this damage is not something he can recover from easily. I offer Diego a deal to try and help restore him to health – it seems most of his healing comes from the lifeblood of others. And I need him. More than he knows yet. He feeds upon my blood granting a boon as per the contract, but it is as I suspected and more – he has regained his health and now has grown to larger than before. It seems that he grows in power each time he feeds, and this may be something I can use to track down Baholahar.
We head back to passage to tie up some loose ends with the inquisitives, some sales and Aeriels magnigying glass. We meet with the lady in the market that purchased the bracers of smoke who was fair to deal with and she took care of all our business. Lynn heads off to get his letter translated and we all agree to meet up for a coffee and discuss where to next. As I am heading to the coffee house a familiar figure I had seen talking with Aerial often taps me on the shoulder and advises me that he has information on the Emerald Claw and our bearded friend and possibly more………
